You want to create a collage using Photoshop. You’re welcome! Collage is a fantastic realm that allows creative freedom.

It was a long time ago that I started making Photoshop collages. It was a real revelation! I could combine my favorite photos in one frame. Once you start, it’s impossible to stop!

Here I will share with you the exact steps I take to create my Photoshop collages. It’s very simple. The best part is? To get started, you don’t have to be an expert in Photoshop. Follow my instructions and you will get a result like this:

Why is Photoshop such a great tool?

Before I explain the collage-making steps, let me first explain the reasons that you would want to make a collage.

You can use collages to make any visual display look better. They can be used to improve any visual display. Want to make your profile on social media pop? Your new Facebook header could be a colorful collage. I often use collages to personalize my Facebook profile.

But collages don’t only have to do with looks. A collage can tell a much more interesting story than a single photograph. Imagine a collage to be a visual story that captures an important moment or conveys a particular theme. The best collages convey a specific message or have a strong emotional impact.

Think about how collages tell the story of special events. What a great collage for a wedding album! Imagine putting all the highlights of the wedding day in a stunning frame. Collages make great holiday cards and gifts. Imagine your favorite moments from the past year printed and framed on the walls of family and friends.

As I mentioned above, creating a collage is quick and easy in Photoshop. No need to spend hours fiddling with settings. In a short time, you can create something stunning.

How to create a Photoshop collage – the step-bystep process

This section will walk you through the steps I use to make my collages, and provide examples. This is a simple process.

Step 1: Choose your collage photos

You’ll first need to choose your collage photos.

I suggest selecting photos that are connected by a common theme (such a location, event or concept). Include a variety of subjects in different sizes. For example, select wide shots of the whole scene and detail photos with lots of texture. The story will not be complete without both. It won’t convey the emotion you want.

When it comes to story-telling, it is often helpful to concentrate on the story that you are trying to tell. You want to tell a story about an event. You want to convey a clear concept. When choosing photos, keep this in mind!

Another tip: Include at least three and not more than eight photos. You won’t have enough photos to tell your story if you use too few. You’ll confuse your viewer if you have too many photos (plus it will be difficult to highlight individual details).

Step 2: Open selected images in Photoshop

Open all your photos in Photoshop once you have selected them.

You can either drag and drop the files onto the document window or select File>Open, and then click on the images.
