It’s no secret that photography is a costly hobby, and a profession even more so. Camera bodies, speedlights, reflectors, memory cards, lighting equipment, backdrops, batteries, stands, hard drives, tripods, back-ups, gear bags, hard cases, the latest gizmo or gadget-that-you-seriously-cannot-possibly-live-without…and don’t forget the glass. Quality lenses are the most expensive item in any camera’s gear closet.
In an ideal universe, money wouldn’t be a problem and annoying things like equipment budgets would not exist, so I could buy all the brand new lenses that I wanted (“Hello, Nikon?” I’ll have one of everything !”). But the reality is that many photographers, including myself, are in this situation. I have to weigh my desire for gear against its cost.
buying used camera equipment is now a thriving industry. You can save money by buying high-quality used lenses.
